Absolute Encoders

Absolute encoders available in both single-turn and multi-turn configurations deliver a unique position value for every shaft angle without requiring a homing sequence upon power-up, as position data is retained across power cycles. Single-turn variants support resolutions up to 16 bits and are offered in metric and imperial form factors with a broad selection of output interfaces spanning serial, parallel, fieldbus, and Ethernet protocols; multi-turn variants extend this capability by integrating a turn counter alongside the single-turn absolute position, achieving combined resolutions of up to 16×16 bits (single-turn × turn count), and are particularly suited to long-stroke linear actuators, cranes, hoists, and any application involving multi-revolution travel. For high-speed industrial networking, Sensata’s multi-turn lineup includes full Ethernet fieldbus support encompassing EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP.
